The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is an assessment of reading competency, which has monitored trends in the performance of students in a five-year interval in countries around the world since 2001. Its main objective is to determine the extent to which the students of 15 years of age, regardless of the grade they are enrolled in, have acquired essential knowledge and competences to address the challenges of adult life.
